Children in care

Some children can’t live with their families. We help them stay safe, healthy and happy.

What does “looked after” mean?

A child is “looked after” when the council helps care for them.
This might be:

  • Living with foster carers
  • Living in a children’s home
  • Staying with family or friends
  • Getting ready to live on their own

How we help

We make sure every child:

  • Has a safe place to live
  • Gets support with school and learning
  • Can see a doctor or nurse when needed
  • Has someone to talk to
  • Can share their views and be listened to

Our promise

We follow the Staffordshire Pledge. It’s a set of promises to children in care and care leavers.
We promise to:

  • Keep you safe
  • Listen to you
  • Help you learn and grow
  • Support your health and wellbeing
  • Treat you fairly and with respect
