The Voice Project – Listening to Children and Young People

We want to make sure children and young people in Staffordshire feel heard.

Last updated: 28th November

What is the Voice Project?

The Voice Project is a team that listens to:

  • Children and young people
  • Parents and carers
  • Families who get help from Staffordshire’s Families First services

This includes:

  • Children’s services
  • Local support teams
  • Leaving care team
  • Fostering and adoption
  • Youth offending team

What do we do?

We help children and young people share their views through:

  • Children in Care Council – meets twice a month
  • Monthly forums – held across Staffordshire
  • Care leaver ambassadors – young people who help others prepare for independence
  • Consultations and surveys – to improve services
  • Training – for staff on how to talk and listen to children

We also work with:

  • Police
  • Schools and colleges
  • Local charities and youth groups

Why it matters

We want children and young people to:

  • Have a say in decisions that affect them
  • Help make services better
  • Feel confident and listened to

Their views are shared with:

  • County managers
  • Heads of service
  • The Corporate Parenting Panel
