What is a hate crime?

A hate crime is when someone is hurt, bullied, or treated unfairly because of:

  • Their race
  • Their religion
  • A disability
  • Their sexual orientation
  • Their gender identity (for example, if they are transgender)

This can include name-calling, threats, damage to property, or physical attacks.
