Section 26 of the Counterterrorism and Security Act 2015 states that local authorities are deemed as specified authorities and as such are responsible for the implementation of the Prevent Duty guidance.
What is Prevent?
Prevent is about:
- Challenging harmful ideas – Terrorist groups often spread extreme views, especially online.
- Helping people early – If someone is at risk of being drawn into terrorism, we can step in and support them.
- Working together – Schools, health services, police, charities and faith groups all help deliver Prevent.
Please refer to the Home Office website for additional information on the Prevent Duty.
