Who can be a governor?

Anyone aged 18 or over can apply. You just need to care about helping children and schools do well.

You don’t need to:

  • Be a parent
  • Work in education
  • Have a child at the school

What do governors do?

Governors don’t run the school day-to-day. Instead, they:

  • Help set the school’s goals and plans
  • Approve the school’s budget
  • Check how well the school is doing
  • Support and challenge the headteacher
  • Help with hiring senior staff

Why become a governor?

Being a governor is a great way to:

  • Learn new skills
  • Help your community
  • Support children’s education
  • Meet new people

Where are governors needed?

There are vacancies across Staffordshire. Even if your local school doesn’t need a governor right now, another nearby school might.
