Who can be a governor?
Anyone aged 18 or over can apply. You just need to care about helping children and schools do well.
You don’t need to:
- Be a parent
- Work in education
- Have a child at the school
What do governors do?
Governors don’t run the school day-to-day. Instead, they:
- Help set the school’s goals and plans
- Approve the school’s budget
- Check how well the school is doing
- Support and challenge the headteacher
- Help with hiring senior staff
Why become a governor?
Being a governor is a great way to:
- Learn new skills
- Help your community
- Support children’s education
- Meet new people
Where are governors needed?
There are vacancies across Staffordshire. Even if your local school doesn’t need a governor right now, another nearby school might.
