Volunteering at family hubs

Make a difference in your community by supporting families and young children in Staffordshire.

Last updated: 11th November

Staffordshire County Council welcomes volunteers from all walks of life to contribute to the wellbeing of children and families through our Children’s Centres and Family Hubs. Volunteering is a rewarding way to give back, develop new skills, and be part of a supportive team making a real impact.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers play a vital role in helping us deliver high-quality services. Activities may include:

  • Supporting stay-and-play sessions
  • Assisting with parenting programmes
  • Helping families access local services
  • Providing a warm welcome to visitors
  • Supporting administrative tasks

You’ll be matched to roles that suit your interests, availability, and experience. Full training and ongoing support are provided.

Who can volunteer?

We welcome applications from individuals aged 18 and over, regardless of background or experience. All volunteers working with children will be required to complete:

  • A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Level 1 safeguarding training
  • Prevent awareness training

These are provided free of charge, and we’ll support you every step of the way.

Why volunteer?

Volunteering in family hubs offers:

  • A chance to give back to your community
  • Opportunities to build confidence and learn new skills
  • Experience that can support future employment
  • Social connections and a sense of belonging

Whether you're looking to start a new career, share your time, or simply try something new, we’d love to hear from you.
