We understand how important climate change is and how it affects people and businesses in Staffordshire.

In July 2019, we declared a climate emergency and committed to reaching net zero emissions by 2050 across all our services and buildings.

Since declaring a climate change emergency, we have reduced our carbon emissions by 52%.

Our plans to combat climate change

Our strategic plan highlights climate change as one of its key principles. We have pledged to 'think climate change in all we do to limit our impact on the environment'.

We release an annual report each year to show our progress and we have a 5-year action plan and adaptation strategy.

How we’re Making Staffordshire Sustainable

Sustainability Board

We’re working with the Staffordshire Sustainability Board, which includes elected council members. Together, we discuss sustainability issues and aim to deliver positive outcomes.

The board has made ten commitments that will help to reduce Staffordshire’s carbon emissions.

Staffordshire Warmer Homes

We have helped over 900 residents with funding for energy efficiency measures in the home through the Staffordshire Warmer Homes Scheme.

Climate Action Fund

We’ve helped over 290 community groups with almost £270,000 funding for green initiatives through the climate action fund.

Green Solutions

Businesses in Staffordshire can now get help to become more eco-friendly and save on energy bills through the Green Solutions programme.

What can you do?

Most local authorities in Staffordshire provide help for householders to repair, improve or adapt their living accommodation. Thermal insulation is one of the measures covered.
