Community paths initiative

The Community Paths Initiative (CPI), started in 1992, is the county council’s main way of supporting local projects to improve and promote public paths. Its goal is to help people enjoy and care for their local paths by getting them involved in looking after and promoting them.

Parish Councils and community groups can apply each year for grants of up to £2,000 for local path projects. The scheme supports a wide range of projects, as long as they help improve the condition of local paths or encourage people to use and enjoy them.

Since 1992, over 220 projects have received funding. These include buying tools and equipment, as well as replacing stiles with kissing gates. The aim is to improve access, creating circular Parish Walks leaflets, and installing info boards.
