Active travel Cannock
The scheme made the area between Cannock town centre and the West Midlands Designer Outlet better for walking and cycling. New paths were added along Lichfield Road and Hednesford Road. It also linked to Cannock Rail Station and Hawks Green Valley Nature Reserve.
There is now a cycle path on both sides of Lichfield Road. Some parts are shared with walkers and cyclists. These paths connect to the crossing at Cannock Rail Station and new crossings near the Designer Outlet and Hollies Avenue. Pedestrians, cyclists, and traffic are mostly kept separate, and cyclists have priority at side roads.
A two-way cycle track goes around the roundabout at Church Street and joins Hednesford Road through a central safe area.
Hednesford Road did not have enough space for a separate cycle path, so a shared path for walking and cycling was added on one side.
A new puffin crossing was built at Old Hednesford Road. The wide junction there was narrowed to make it safer and easier for people to cross.
