Overview and Contact us
Parents’ legal duty
Under Section 7 of the Education Act 1996, parents are legally responsible for making sure their child gets a full-time education. This can be done by:
- Sending them to a state school
- Sending them to a private school
- Educating them at home
Thinking About Home Education?
Home education gives you freedom to choose activities and learning styles that suit your child. You won’t be tied to school terms or hours.
But you will be responsible for making sure your child gets a suitable education. Home education can take a lot of time, energy, and money, so think carefully before deciding. Talk to other parents who home educate to learn from their experience.
