Making sure there are enough school places
We must make sure there are enough school places for every child and young person who lives in Staffordshire. This is part of our legal duty.
How we plan new school places
The law says we should support a mix of good schools. This includes:
- Helping strong schools grow when more places are needed
- Asking for ideas for a new free school when a brand‑new school is needed
New schools planned for the next five years
We plan to ask academy trusts to run two new schools:
- North Stafford (SDL site) – a new secondary school
- Beamhill, Burton upon Trent – a new primary school
When the process for these schools begins, we will share full details on this page.
If you are interested, please check this page often for updates.
Sponsors chosen for two new free schools
We have already chosen sponsors for two other free schools:
Burleyfields in Stafford
- The sponsor will be The Creative Learning Partnership Trust.
- You can find more details about the trust on their website.
- You can also read more about the new school and its consultation on our website.
St. John’s Grange in Lichfield
- The sponsor will be Primitas Learning Partnership.
- You can find more information about the trust on their website.
- More details about the school and the consultation are also on our website.

Right now, we are not consulting on any new free school presumptions.
