How we plan school places

We want to make sure there are enough school places for every child in Staffordshire — now and in the future.

What we do

Our School Organisation Team looks at how many school places are needed across the county. They:

  • Check how many children are likely to need a school place.
  • Work with builders when new houses are planned, so new school places can be created if needed.
  • Keep track of empty places in schools.
  • Make sure school buildings have enough space.
  • Share information when any changes to schools are planned.

How we plan school places

We group nearby schools together into school planning areas.
These groups help us understand:

  • Where children live
  • How they travel to school
  • How many school places each area needs
  • How schools work together in their community

Who we work with

To plan well, we work with:

  • School governors
  • Headteachers
  • Multi‑academy trusts
  • Dioceses
  • Local communities
  • Developers and house builders
  • Other important partners
