Trade waste

Businesses can dispose of trade waste at recycling centres with a waste carriers licence and proof of address.

Overview

How to apply for a waste carriers licence

Apply for a waste carriers licence through gov.uk or contact the Environment Agency on 0370 850 6506.

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) in trade waste

We cannot accept trade waste that contains Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). If your load contains POPs, it will be refused and turned away.

POPs are hazardous materials. They must be handled and disposed of under strict environmental regulations. This includes:

  • waste upholstered domestic seating
  • items treated with flame retardants

Check your load before you arrive. If it contains POPs, you cannot dispose of it at our sites.

Trade waste rules

  • Trade waste is normally accepted at 10 of our sites.
  • We may refuse trade waste at any time if:
    • we do not have enough capacity
    • members of the public cannot dispose of household waste because of trade waste volumes
  • Priority is always given to household waste.

You do not need a van or trailer permit for trade waste. We only accept trade and commercial waste from businesses in Staffordshire.

All trade visitors must:

  • provide a copy of their waste carrier licence
  • show their business address
