Support for unpaid carers

Find out if you are a carer, what a Carer’s Assessment is, how to get support, and how to plan for emergencies.

Support for young carers

A young carer is someone under 18 who helps to look after a family member or friend. You might help with shopping or appointments, keep someone company, or support their health and emotions. Help is available so you can enjoy life, do well at school or college, and stay healthy.

What support can I get?

After a young carer’s assessment, you may get:

  • Information, advice and guidance about your caring role
  • Someone to listen and help with worries
  • Activities such as sport, crafts, games, and holiday sessions
  • Support to make a plan for emergencies and for the future
  • Links to peer support and local opportunities
