Freedom of Information (FOI)

Under the Freedom of Information Act (FOI) and the Environmental Information Regulations (EIR) you have a right to request non-personal recorded information that may be held by a public authority.

Schedule of charges for information requests

Access to information

We do not normally charge for information made available in response to 'freedom of information requests'. However, we may refuse your freedom of information (FOI) request if the cost of meeting the request exceeds an ‘appropriate limit’, or is likely to entail ‘disproportionate effort’ to put into permanent form to release.

Where possible we will release an electronic copy of personal information that we hold. We will either refuse the request or charge a 'reasonable fee' for the administrative costs of complying with a subject access request (SAR), if it is manifestly unfounded or excessive, or if you ask for additional paper copies to be provided. We will advise you of costs if charges apply.

Information made available for inspection

We are required by law to make some types of information available for inspection. We do not charge for viewing this information but we do charge for supplying copies or printouts from such documents where we are permitted to do so.

Information services

We do charge for ‘information services’. These services include collecting, collating, manipulating, analysing and interpreting data, research and reprographic services, or where supply of information forms part of a commercial transaction backed by local authority guarantee.

Charges for information services include:

  • land and property enquiry searches
  • historic environment record (HER) data
  • traffic data
  • research
  • reprographic services
  • commercial publications
