Climate change - action plan summary

This plan outlines how we plan to continue our path to net zero and to build climate change resilience into our services.

Our approach to climate change

Key themes

Staffordshire County Council’s Strategic Development Framework sets out how we aim to reach net zero and build a climate-resilient county.

The Staffordshire Adaptation Strategy is a joint plan with district and borough councils. It focuses on working together to make services and the local environment more resilient.

Both documents include key objectives across five main themes. These themes guide our climate risk assessment and action plan.

The action plan

The action plan takes an inclusive approach to tackling climate change. It builds on our progress towards net zero and adds new actions to help Staffordshire become more climate resilient.

These actions will help the county thrive in the future. Our priority actions are listed below. The full action plan is included in the Programme roadmap.

Action plan delivery

Governance

Managing climate risks well needs clear direction, strong leadership and good controls. Climate change is a priority in Staffordshire County Council’s Strategic Plan. This means it is considered across all council services.

Each directorate has a senior officer responsible for leading on climate change. They help champion our commitments and make sure climate action is embedded across the organisation.

Communications

Staffordshire County Council is a trusted source of honest and impartial information. We will use our communication channels to raise awareness of climate risks, impacts and opportunities.

We will also work with communities and organisations to build resilience and support long-term climate action.

Monitoring and progress

We are committed to tracking progress on our climate action plan. Regular reviews will make sure our actions stay ambitious and keep up with new technology and national policy changes.

We report our progress each year in the Climate Change Annual Report.
