About the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Archive Service and what their role is

Archives service overview

What we do

The Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Archive Service looks after old records about life in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. We find, collect, and keep these records safe, so people can use them now and in the future.

Our offices

There are two record offices:

  • Staffordshire Record Office
  • Stoke-on-Trent City Archives

How we are run

The Archive Service is run by Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council. A special committee of elected members makes decisions. We follow plans and policies they approve.

Since 2012, the Archive Service and the County Museum Service have worked together as the Archives and Heritage Service. In Staffordshire, this is part of the Economy, Infrastructure and Skills team. In Stoke-on-Trent, it is part of the Strategy and Resources team.

Working with others

We are part of Archives West Midlands, a charity that brings archive services together. This helps us share projects and knowledge.
