Frequently asked questions - bus passes

Where and when can I travel?

If you have a Staffordshire County Council bus pass for older or disabled people, you can travel for free on local buses in England.

You can use your pass between 9:30am and 11:00pm, Monday to Friday, and all day on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays.

If you have a disabled bus pass, you can travel any time on journeys that start in Staffordshire. For trips outside Staffordshire, you can use your pass during the times listed above.

Can I use my bus pass on trains and trams?

No. Your pass can only be used on buses.

Can I apply for a companion pass?

You can apply if you meet one or more of the following:

  • Registered or severely sight impaired
  • 12+ points on PIP in Moving Around
  • Confined to a wheelchair
  • Severe disability preventing unaided travel (medical evidence required)

Supporting evidence is required. You’ll receive a pass with a C+ logo for your carer.

Can I get an elderly and disabled persons railcard?

We do not offer this. You can purchase a railcard at your local staffed rail station. It provides a 1/3 discount on rail fares and does not affect your entitlement to a bus pass.

Who sets the criteria for issuing English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS) passes?

The guidance to transport authorities issuing ENCTS bus passes is set by the Department of Transport. The guidance including eligibility criteria can be viewed at Managing the English national concessionary travel scheme (ENCTS) - GOV.UK
