Walking bus
The Walking Bus is a safe, healthy and environmentally friendly way for children to travel to school. It encourages active travel and helps reduce congestion around school gates.
Staffordshire County Council has supported Walking Buses in schools since 1999. The scheme has recently been refreshed, with new routes assessed and ready to launch.
How it works
A Walking Bus is a group of children walking to school along a set route, led by trained adult volunteers. Each route is risk-assessed and supported by the council.
What we provide
- Route audit and safety checks
- Equipment and signage
- Training materials for volunteers
- Ongoing support from School Travel Advisors
All Walking Bus leaders must be DBS checked.
