Care in your own home

Explore housing and care options in Staffordshire, from staying at home to supported housing and care homes.

Home care support

Home care means a trained care worker visits you at home to help with daily tasks. This can include:

  • Getting in and out of bed
  • Washing and dressing
  • Preparing meals

Who can get home care?

You may be eligible for support from Staffordshire County Council if you have high care needs and would be at significant risk without help.

Most people will need to contribute to the cost, and some will pay the full amount. We’ll carry out a social care assessment to check your needs and a financial assessment to work out what you’ll pay.

How to arrange home care

  • If you qualify for council support, we can arrange care through one of our contracted providers.
  • You can also choose to take a Direct Payment and arrange your own care.
  • If we arrange care, you won’t be able to choose the provider, and preferred visit times may not always be possible.

Other options

  • Use a home care agency – search on Staffordshire Connects
  • Employ a personal assistant for continuity and familiarity (you’ll become their employer and take on legal responsibilities).

Check quality

All home care agencies must be registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). You can read inspection reports on the CQC website.
