Driving to school - park & stride

If you need to drive your child to school, you can help reduce congestion and improve safety by using Park & Stride. This means parking a short distance away and walking the rest of the journey.

Benefits

  • Reduces traffic near school gates
  • Improves road safety for children and families
  • Encourages physical activity
  • Supports cleaner air and a healthier environment

How to take part

  • Park a short distance from school and walk the final part of the journey
  • Use designated Park & Stride sites where available (e.g. local car parks, churches, pubs)
  • If no official site is available, use a journey planner or map to find a safe place to park

Parking guidance

Do:

  • Park safely and legally
  • Keep zigzag and double yellow lines clear
  • Leave space for emergency vehicles

Don’t:

  • Block driveways or access routes
  • Leave your engine running
  • Arrive too early and cause congestion
