School place planning in Newcastle Borough
Newcastle Borough is split into two main areas:
- Newcastle
- Kidsgrove
A two‑tier education system operates across the borough, meaning:
- Primary schools teach children aged 4–11
- Secondary schools teach pupils aged 11–16 or 11–18
To plan school places, the borough is divided into smaller planning areas. These are based on where schools are and how pupils move between them.
