Deafblind (dual-sensory loss) support

If you are living with both sight and hearing loss that affects your daily life, you are entitled to specialist support from Staffordshire County Council’s Sensory Team. The team provides advice, guidance, and practical help to adults in Staffordshire who are deafblind, supporting you either at home or in the community according to your individual needs and support plan.

Getting a deafblind assessment

If you think you may benefit from a deafblind assessment, you can request one directly. The assessment is designed to understand how your combined sight and hearing loss impacts your daily life and to identify the right support, equipment, or rehabilitation to help you remain as independent as possible.

To arrange an assessment, simply contact Staffordshire Cares. The team will talk you through the process, answer any questions, and make sure you are connected to the right services.

What happens next?

After your assessment, you will receive a personalised support plan. This may include advice on communication, mobility, daily living skills, and access to specialist equipment or communicator guides. The Sensory Team works closely with you to ensure your needs are met and that you can continue to live confidently and independently.
