Families First works locally with key partners to support children, young people and families.

Localised Support Across Staffordshire

The Families First service operates across 19 geographical patches within Staffordshire’s 8 districts. Services are delivered locally by:

  • Early Help Teams
  • Safeguarding Units
  • Looked After Children’s Services
  • Children’s Disability Teams

Coordinated Response

Families First brings together all services that work with children, young people, and families to ensure a joined-up approach.

Levels of Need & Support

Level 3 – Multiple Needs

  • Who is helped? Children with multiple needs affecting health, development, or learning.
  • Response: Typically managed by Early Help Teams.

Level 4 – Acute Needs

  • Who is helped? Children in crisis or with complex, long-term needs, including:
    • Children with complex disabilities
    • Those suffering or at risk of significant harm
    • Children offending or subject to court orders
  • Response: Delivered by Specialist Services, such as:
    • Youth Offending Service
    • Short Stay Schools
    • Disability Services
    • Specialist Safeguarding Units
    • Looked After Children Services

  • Safeguarding Units: For children already supported by a social worker.
  • Staffordshire Children’s Advice and Support Service: For urgent safeguarding concerns.
